Cool Choir in Calgary

Calgary has already witnessed the triumphant rise of Cool Choir, with nearly 400 members gathering weekly across various locations. It’s now Calgary’s largest recreational choir, tailored for those who enjoy singing in their cars and showers. It stands as the only non-auditioned adult rock and pop choir of its kind in the city.

Opportunity Overview

Our dynamic, rapidly expanding company, characterised by youth and distinctiveness, is on the lookout for exceptional, spirited individuals with an entrepreneurial spark to introduce Cool Choir in various Canadian locales.

This opportunity is an ongoing endeavor, commencing each year in September and/or January. You will partner with our Creative Director, Jamie Serafi, and our team to establish and manage this community-based enterprise. Your innate leadership qualities and ability to inspire and motivate those around you are crucial for ensuring its growth and success. As an independent business owner, your entrepreneurial skills will be the driving force behind this venture!

Who We Are Looking For

To excel in this role, you should possess a lively, engaging, and occasionally quirky personality – a critical aspect of this position. Just like us, you should have a profound love for rock and pop music.

While formal music education isn’t mandatory, having proficient piano or guitar skills is beneficial for efficiently teaching harmonies without relying on a separate accompanist during rehearsals. Your boundless energy, sense of humour, knack for harmonising, and enthusiasm for technology and social media will leave your choir members yearning for more!

This role demands a long-term commitment and offers a highly lucrative career path. It suits recent music graduates, teachers/vocal coaches seeking new challenges, professional musicians, or anyone possessing the requisite skills for an entrepreneurial journey.

Schedule & Commitment

If working alone, your schedule should accommodate Cool Choir rehearsals on a minimum of three weeknights between Monday and Thursday evenings for 30 weeks per year. However, we are also open to putting together a team of choir leaders together to make this schedule more viable, if necessary.

If working alone however, this isn’t a part-time gig on the side; it’s a full-fledged career with demanding requirements, especially in the initial phases when you’ll be focused on marketing, promoting choirs, organising performances, social events, and workshops throughout the year. With dedication, time investment, strong commitment, exceptional talent, and a likable, easygoing personality, you’ll swiftly turn this into a highly rewarding, life-changing journey, earning a living as a musician while still pursuing weekend gigs and performances.

Essential Qualifications

• Proficiency in reading music
• Competent piano or guitar skills to facilitate teaching without an accompanist
• Comfortable with networking, promotion, and media interviews
• Tech-savvy with a strong grasp of social media
• A passion for motivating, inspiring, and engaging others
• Exceptional communication skills
• Warm, endearing, bubbly, and quirky personality (leave your ego at the door)
• A positive, energetic presence that naturally attracts others
• Collaborative spirit, able to work effectively within a creative team without ego
• Driven, ambitious, and highly motivated
• Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
• Boundless enthusiasm and energy
• Open to creative direction and guidance
• Initiative-driven and comfortable working as part of a team without micromanagement
• Access to a car and a valid driver’s license
• Ownership or willingness to acquire/rent a portable piano (or guitar), PA system, and microphone

Desirable (Not Mandatory)

• Knowledge of music software and music arranging abilities

• This role is NOT suitable for independent artists seeking to elevate their status or build a fan base.
• You must be a permanent resident or Canadian citizen with legal work authorisation.
• Comprehensive training will be provided to the right candidate.
